Hey, and don't forget about kids! What time the xyl doesnt zap away, the kids
do! How many times have I heard "honey I am only running down to the
store for a minute. You watch the kids." Usually happens during max
qso/min rate periods.

Yesterday, we installed a 6 el DXE beam at local contester's QTH (K0KX)
using tram system. We ran out of rope and thus needed two guys to lift the
150+ lb antenna w/o block & tackle, which then required hooking up to a 4 x4
truck.

The point is that a lot of our time is spent installing the lift rope block
and tackle, which then usually consumes two guys to operate it.

Is their an AC powered winch commercially available that will handle > 500
lbs, pays out ~ 175' of cable, yet is fast enough to run tools up and down
the tower ? If this were permanently installed at top of tower, or on gin
pole, with a remote control up/down, this would seem to be the hot tip.

A local tool retailer in Minneapolis (Northern Hydraulics) sells a variety
of winches, but they're not quite what I am looking for. The closest fit is
an AC powered winch for $300 w/ 50' of 3/32" aircraft cable, rated for 1500
lbs (the bail looks like it will handle 150' of cable). Payout rate is 11
ft/minute, which is fine for the antenna, but too slow for a dropped tool.

Any ideas? I will summarize replies.
