Somehow, I think Scott Fox would have something interesting
to say about this.
Speaking as a male who discovered contesting before sex, I
used to think there was nothing better than contesting. Even
after I found out that girls liked me a lot, it was easy to
maintain a balance. Throughout the courtship and wedding of
my first wife, I learned that great sex was on a par right
up there with contesting. She was exceptionally accomodating
of my operating, too, which immediately separated me out from
the majority of my colleagues.
This balance was fine until the first time I went outside the
country to single-op the CQWW CW. I guess I finally crossed
the line. Not having the sense to see it the first time, I
went back the next year. After the third year in a row, I had
to move out the next day upon returning home.
I guess if the topic of this discussion was WOMEN and SS,
things would be different. To be a hired gun in the SS doesn't
take several grand and a month of preparation. She used to
come with me and take good care of me for domestic contests.
But oh, that dreaded CQWW.
Since then I have discovered GREAT sex, and truly there is
no comparison. Anybody want the keys to my station? I only
operate when SHE'S out of town.
Like I keep telling myself, 'After all, it IS just a hobby.'

Does anyone know where I might obtain the results of the ARRL DX
contest? I believe they are printed in this months QST, but
we are anxious to see them, and cant wait for them to swim across
the Atlantic hi!
Does the ARRL have an ftp site for this kind of data?

This generated a lot more activity than I expected (I had nothing to do with
inventing or organizing it, by the way). If you didn't try it over the Labor
Day
weekend, check the rules on page 46 of August QST and give it a try. It runs
through next weekend. Considering the thousands of former CD Party ops
out there, I was surprised at how few people with ARRL "appointments"
I worked (most likely an indication of the number of people who used to
maintain appointments as an entre into the CD Parties!).
In the spirit of the event I worked CW only (also because I am using a
Drake TR-7 loaned to me by K1ZZ for which, naturally, there is no mic). I
made 600 Qs over the weekend and will try to get on evenings and next
weekend and perhaps break 1,000. This with 100 watts and a 200-ft
centerfed at 40 ft, in perhaps 8 hours.
I called a bunch of CQs on 17 meters and a few on 30 meters, turning
up one QSO -- KT5X. Too bad. More than 90 percent of the Qs were
W/VE, too, as I stayed above 025 on all bands.
And, swearing off computers, I sent CW by hand (no memory keyer) and
logged by hand, for the first time in five or six years. It's no wonder I
have carpal tunnel syndrome.
