Awesome! I concur with K7SS and NG0X, the more data that can be shoved
into the line scores the better. Some things are hard to quantify of
course, and there is a limit as to what we can ask them who spend
valuable time on the writeups to do. I'd be grateful for anything.
And while we're defining symbols, there's more ASCII in them thar hills!

Well, let's not confuse innovation per se with illegality. Some crimes
are innovative, sure, but their innovation is not what makes them crimes.
Without degenerating into a meaningless discussion of trifles, I can see
where you're coming from. It just becomes impossible to draw the "line in
the sand" without becoming so "fine grained" that the rule becomes
impossibly complex...such as the tax code.
What we're really dancing around is, of course, contest ethics. It's not
"illegal" (or innovative) to call CQ too close to somebody else, but it's
sure jerky. Was it jerky to call CQ on more than one band at once in the
Sprint? No...but it was VERY unexpected. Is it jerky to work
non-contesters to get the mult or QSO? No, as long as the necessary
information is obtained within the rules of the contest.
Face it, the top talent, in anything, is going to be pushing the envelope
in innovative and unexpected ways. Sometimes, they will go too far or do
something not illegal, but unacceptable in some other way. Then, that
activity will be declared outside the rules and thereafter, illegal. I
prefer the requirement of commission prior to sanction. ie; it's easier
to ask forgiveness than permission.
There's a Far Side cartoon where the pioneers have circled the wagons and
the Indians are galloping around them. One of the pioneers has walked
over to the wagon boss and says, "The Indians just shot a flaming arrow
onto my wagon. Can they do that?"
