I enjoy reading scores and station configurations. I agree with the
idea of putting *cqww/scores* or the like in the subject head.
How many of us read all the little soapbox comments in the contest
writeups ? same idea only almost realtime.

Have seen quite a bit of traffic lately about the posting of scores. As
one who is presently inactive, does not subscribe to the NCJ (I know, I
know ...), etc., I appreciate seeing them. It only takes a second to
delete 'em, anyway.

Hello all....
I'm about to put up a TH-7 that I got used, and am planning on replacing
the BN86 with a ferrite bead balun. I'm also planning on using one of these
on a 40-2CD. I got the balun kits from the Wireman, and they consist of a
short piece of teflon coax and 50 beads (this was cheaper than buying just
the beads from someone like Amidon). My question is: is there any advantage
in placing the balun in a piece of PVC (like many of the commercial ones), or
is it OK to just put a PL-259 on the coax and seal it up well? The only
advantages I see to using the PVC are 1) aesthetics and 2) maybe easier to
weatherproof; or, am I missing something? Any comments would be appreciated.
Speaking of weatherproofing..... Does anyone have any experience with
Starbrite (R) Liquid Electrical Tape (TM)? Apparently the stuff wasn't
selling at WalMart, so they closed it out for half price a few months back.
According to the label, it was developed for the boating industry to provide
a "totally waterproof coating that could be applied to any size or shape
electrical connection", is flexible, and UV resistant among its many other
attributes. It "Forms a Protective Dielectric Coating on Electrical
Connections to Seal Out Moisture and Prevent Corrosion." - sounds good to me.
I was thinking about wrapping my coax connections (like the aforementioned
balun) with regular electrical tape and then giving them a couple of coats
of this stuff...sound reasonable?
Lastly, does anyone know of any crank-up towers that, when retracted, are
shorter that the average 20 - 22 feet or so? Total height not real
important as long as it's at least 30 - 40 feet, anyway. I'm aware that US
Towers makes such an animal, but did not know of anything else out there.
This would be for mounting on a trailer for VHF contests, FD, etc.
