Greetings Contesters:

Eight operators will be activating ZF2JI during the CQWW Phone
contest. This will be a multi-multi operation with four stations.
There will also be a dedicated 160 meter station with beverage
receive antennas.
The operators are: K4IIF (ZF2JI), N6DLU, K1KNQ, N6LL, N7QQ,
                            W9NQ, KJ4WH, AA6RX and host ZF1EJ

Please work us all bands!!!!!!
                                                 73 & Gud Contesting,

Message-ID: <9409247830.AA783036675@smtpgty.anatcp.rockwell.com>

The problem below is a new one to me. Have been through the
diode switches burning out when SSB contesting and not having a
receiver anymore, and also have had a constantly searching tuner
problem. Those were fixed under warrantee.

Now the problem is a receiver that drops say 30 dB at random and
will go up and down for a little while and then be normal.
Mainly seems to happen when 'cold'. Any help there?

Has anyone had any problems with what I believe an antenna tunner problem
what you look at an antenna that is a shorted circuit like a balum on a
TH6. An S9 noise level is generated. Sounds like the relays are cycling at
a very fast rate of speed. By pressing the 'Tuner"
button and engaging the turner it clears up. No problem though when using
phasesd 40 meter verticals.

Thanks

Subject: IC-761 and PC interface Probs !
Message-ID: <m0qzIUx-0002fDC@raider.raider.net>

Hi ! I know time is short, just trying to help get a new contestor here
(Kirk-WR3O) up and running before the WW.

He has an Icom IC-761 (Serial # 3161) that will NOT work 100 % with the
logging/contest programs (CT/NA/DXBase) properly. When used with DXBase 2/3/4
he gets "CORRUPT/NO RADIO RESPONSE" and "ERROR STROING RADIO" messages when
using the Alt-N and Alt-M commands, BUT Alt-Q (freq entry from keybrd) works
FB ... Sometimes Alt-N and Alt-M work, but not always ....agn, NOT Always !

This is NOT a DXBase ONLY problem ... Let me explain what we have tried ...
and in this case the DXBase software may be giving us somes "clues" as to
the problem, and hopefully a SOLUTION !

I brought my PC(386DX40) and my CT-17 from my 765, hooked them up to his 761.

Same results ... Sometimes Go, Some times No-go

Used my PC and a DX Solutions interface box.

Same results ...

His PC (286-12) and the DX Solutions box.

Same results ...

Added a "buffer" from the Feb 90 QST article to the DX Solutions box.

Same results ...

I can duplicate the "Same results ..." at home with my IC-765 by TURNING THE
RADIO OFF.

Here's my 'best guess', need someone in the know to help solve this one !

I think it's a timing problem in the 761. Either the software is too fast
or the response from the 761 is too slow or a combination of both at times.

The use of other PCs, and other interfaces rules those two areas out.

The problem is common to really ANY software that "polls/asks" the 761 for
it's current frequency information. (ie the ERROR STORING RADIO message from
DXBase) SOMETIMES it seems to read FB, sometimes not ... BUT, the DXBase
command of Alt-Q (Enter freq from keyboard) has NEVER failed to respond
and change the 761's freq) That indicates that the 761 will follow the
"input/freq command" from the software OK ...

We tried over and over to find a pattern, but it's just hit or miss ...

I believe the message from NA was "Icom radio not responding" at times ...
as in when you changed BANDS from the ICOM, not using the software...

We checked the output from the Freq port on the 761, and it is at spec.

We tried adding the buffer (7417 chip) to see if the I/O from rig/software
might be having traffic or timing 'collisions' and that adding the buffer
might help... It didn't !

We are out of ideas !

I do remember the QST review on this radio stating SOME 761's had a PLL
related (?) problem with QSK and wide QSX ranges. That mode has NOT been
done to this rig, as NO problems have occured, and He thinks his serial
number range already had the changes made at Icom. I don't know if this
could be part of it or not. I do know from studying BOTH the 761 es 765
service books that the freq control I/O circuits are totally different ..

Ideas, suggestions, etc are most welcome.

Kirk has the "fever" to join the "fray" ... Perhaps someone can help !

73, and Enjoy the Contest, whatever class/effort you choose !

The new versions of NA have a .qdf file. Is this the same as the .bin file
in CT?

What or which files should I submitt to CQ if I use CT? NA?
Need the answer to the same questions for ARRL contests. Thanks in advance

     Hola colegas!

This is to wish you all guys luck in the WW-SSB,
and to let you know that ill be all bands low power
from my new station with decent antennas.... will

be a serious attempt to the record, im gonna work hard
but will keep on mind that I have to retain some strenght
because there are a BUNCH OF LOCOS that are going to invade
