Hello Contesters!
Just went back from Linosa Island for our little CQWW effort from Zone 33
on all the bands and for the IV3TAN's attempt to beat the african record
on 80 meters (well done!), now we consider that those little islands, lost
in the southern Mediterranean Sea, should be considered as a NEW MULTIPLIER
for the CQWW DX Contests.
As you know, for Europe, the multipliers are the countries listed in the
WAE list, while for the other continents the reference is the DXCC country
list.
For this reason we have European Turkey valid as a multiplier, different of
the rest of the country, which is in Asia.
Italy, of course, is one of the european countries listed in the WAE list
and is a valid multiplier.
So, if as for Turkey, there is a part of an european country that is not
located within the european border, but in an other continent, it will
count as a different multiplier.
In the same way of Turkey, Italy has IG9 and IH9 (Lampedusa, Linosa,
Lampione and Pantelleria) that are located in Africa-Zone 33 and they
should be considered as a different multiplier.
The Islands have an area of about 110 Sq. Km, about 20,000 inhabitants,
two airports and they are frequently linked to Italy by ships and
hydrofoil boats. They are closer to the african coast (Tunisia) than to
Sicily Island and are frequented by turists from all Europe.
Also, on Lampedusa is located a LORAN station managed by the US Navy.
What should be the name for this new multiplier ?
Maybe "PANTELLERIA AND PAELAGIAN ARCHIPELAGO" would be a good one.
We will ask to the CQWW Contest Committee what they believe about this
matter, YOUR opinion will be very much appreciated,
73s and always enjoy contesting !

Jim Neiger, N6TJ, has smashed the previous 15 SO record with a fantastic score
of 3.53M. Jim had 178 countries, 36 zones, 5600 Qs. ZD8 must be in a
different galaxy than the one I operated from! JACK

>So what is this N4KG reverse fed antenna?
>Jim, WA6SDM
>jholly@cup.hp.com
N4KG wrote a article of feeding a tower on low bands. The system uses
elevated radials and the feedpoint connections are reversed to the usual way
- the shield of coax is connected to the tower and the center conductor is
connected to the radials.
According to N4KG's measurements the feedpoint impedance is between 10-20
ohms roughly and he used two parallel 75 ohms coax cables as a balun. The
article was on QST this year, I can't remember which issue june/july or
august.

Inv. Vee at 110ft. centre. Beverage.
80M. 4SQ array and delta loop. Beverage.
40M. 3ele fullsize at 100ft and 402cd at 80ft plus low dipole.
20M. 2 stacked 204cd top 100ft, 205BA at 100ft.
15M. 2 stacked lengthened 155BA , top 100ft and 155BA at 80ft.
10M. 2 stacked 105BA (24ft spacing) 80ft and 105BA at 80ft.
Second antenna system on hf used for 'lining up' multipliers.
Rigs: Various and variable! At the start FT1k, by the end even ICOM 735.
Comments: Murphy struck but we survived. Multiple transceiver/amp failures
affected us, especially 20M. CT network worked well, a few minor bugs
to be reported to K1EA asap before CW leg. By the end we had
figured out radio control. Apologies to those who may have called
us on 40M, we had receiver problems. We also found out that our
previously well tested 40M beam was rendered unusable in heavy
rain, hence the low q etc numbers on 40M.
We found conditions interesting with 10M a welcome surprise.
With improved mult passing we look forward to breaking a few
band country records. Many improvements/solutions made/found,
so we are beginning to feel competitive, it has taken 3 years
to reach this stage and has been a very interesting and rewarding
investment. ( of resources in general).
Thanks to those who called us, apologies to those who called but
were not answered. Thanks also to K1EA and the CQ Contest Committee.
362 days and counting ....
Regards, Bob of Team G0KPW.
