CONGRATS TO N6TR FOR FINALLY TAKING THE SPRINT RECORD FROM TEXAS TO THE NW!!
(Now KR0Y has a new goal!) good luck to you both!

K7SS SIngle band 20 meters 164 / 44
Had a fun time going single band... was able to get the adrenaline rush at the
start and for the first time in years was able to just linten and cruise the
bands at the end.

Lesson learned by listening to 20 go into the sunset: All the TWO (three?)
RADIO BOYS have a DECIDED ADVANTAGE OVER THE WHOLE FIELD. As 20 died and all
the one radio guys went to 40, the only thing left on 20 was alot of low
number "fresh meat"......AND the second voices of the likes of
N4RJ NM5M N6TR KR0Y K5GN KE3Q W5WMU and K6NA...these guys were running
away from the pack by being able to scan and/or call cq into a "dead" band
and find those lingering strays (AND mults). The rest of the field was
hard at it on 40 while they had their "robots" calling and scanning while
they copied a report on 40 or 80.

Its definately a technological equipment contest and the TOP TEN shows it!!
Im not forgetting talent....the top ten is made up of the very skilled (and
usually those very skilled have the toys to play with). Anyone making it
into that rarified box with one radio deserves HEAPS-O-PRAISE!

Will we all end up with TWO radios and the equipment to make it all play?
I doubt it. Seems like those that want it, have it already, and the rest of
us will mumble in our beards,..."boy, how do they get those scores!?"

Cant wait til Sept Sprint...73

I'm beginning to enjoy RTTY contesting. However, non-mainstream contests are
always a little boring due to lack of activity & it's even worse on RTTY. I
hope this one catches on, especially since JAs are worth something in this
one!

Personal best Low-Power QSO total. 40 and 80 real good, although I
probably shoulda made more band changes. Missed a bunch of mults; ND
(heard WB0O, but never made the Q), MN (MN? Of course it was 50 below
there), AZ (K6LL musta been loafing this weekend), and the usual culprits.
K1KI gets best ears award - CT on all three bands and he calls ME on 80!

Now have tried five different 80-meter antennas in the past year. The
best by an S-unit to the states is a sliping dopile from about 60' down at
45-degrees into a 40' deep ravine. Just think of it as a corner reflector
on 80. A close second is the GAP Voyager which beats the dipole handily
once you get out a ways. This antenna should be named the Secret Service
Vertical, cause it's always wrestling itself to the ground! I just got a
pair of HF2V's in phase tuned up, but haven't had a chance to really test
'em yet.

What a blast! My first full 4 hours on a Sprint. Previous episodes have
been limited by time and enthusiasm. Joined Tree's superior team and had
even more fun. Congrats to those super operators with scores in high 200s
and 300s. Don't know how they do it unless it's two radios (per Dannys'
comments) and a more youthful set of reaction times. Regards, Rod

  Category: Steath Antennas, Part Time
      Team: NCCC#2 (the B team)

20m 48 ok until it died
40m 79 best band, the delta loop works well
80m 13 had to use keyer due to RF in shack
      Totals 140 * 35 = 4900

All exchanges sent were "S/N Tony CA".

Equipment and Excuses:
RIG: FT-990, FL7000 & 486DX2-66 MHz running TRLog v4.05 demo.
ANTs: My CC&R's prohibit external antennas, so I have an attic 20-10m fan
dipole, a stealthly corner fed 40m delta loop and a semi-stealthy
80-15m fan ground plane in the eucalyptus over the garden wall. (With all
those wires it looks like an inverted discone on steroids!)

RF in the shack prevented me from using the computer with the amp on 80m.
The press of work has kept me from curing the problem.

The XYL, away with family business, called late in the contest and I lost
1/2 hour of prime time on 80m. (She's a Ham and should _know_ better!!)
Oh well, mebbe it was not to be this time...
