I worked a handful of kids in the first SQUint (Dave, 42, Black). And for
this very reason I always listened before I called to be sure no one else
was calling, because I didn't want to step on the toes of any kiddies.
But if no one else called I did so because I think the tykes would rather
get a response from a grup than from nobody. And there really weren't
all that many kids on, plus with propagation limitations they didn't have
answers to a lot of their calls. Now if this event keeps growing to where
there are a large quantity of kids on the air, then I would say it would
be time to ban the grups (old Trek term if you recall).

Saw your post the kids CONTEST this weekend and wanted to reply.
I don't see this weekend event as a SquINT. The individual who has set
this up did NOT speak to anyone in regard to rules, awards or anything
for that matter. He has decided on his own when the next event will be,
decided on his own rules and now is doing his own awards, yet his still
has the gonads to call it a SquINT. This has bothered me all week and I
have tried to make my point to this guy with no avail. He has taken a
fun operating EVENT and turned it into a CONTEST....which was never the
intent of the SquINT.
IMHO, this sucks....sure has rubbed me the wrong way.
Anyway, you should be getting your SquINT Certificate and picture in the
mail soon.

This was my first IARU and my first DX contest from home. The 100W into
a single multi-band vertical was a big drawback. I would have liked to
have a second VFO for 40m as well. I really had a great time even though
the overnight was slow and noisy. This contest is incentive to get at least
a beam up for next year! I need to increase my points per QSO ratio.
I did this contest "one point at a time" with 100W into a Butternut
HF6V vertical from a Ten-Tec Omni D (one VFO).
I have observed all competition rules as well as all regulations established
for amateur radio in my country. My report is correct and true to the best
knowledge. I agree to be bound by the decisions of the awards committee.

I really want to thank all those great ops that pulled me out of the
aether! My Q with CE8EIO was by far the most challenging. I had a
chance to use my poor rendition of Spanish numbers and letters. I was
surprised at the activity on 10 and 15. I like the mult per band contests
that promote wringing out the bands. The noise level on 15 was a welcome
relief from the other bands. Man was W1AW solid in Vermont! Hey I thought
I was only supposed to LISTEN to them !:-O I did alot of band switching
and surfing. I called CQ when I could despite the weak signal and did
better than I would have expected. Think more aluminium is what I run
through my head over and over (or at least more copper)! Again, thanks
for the Qs.
