Hi Folks,

Here's the latest update for the CQWW SSB DXpedition Listing. It will also
be the last update before the contest since I leave for Zone 2 on Tuesday.
Looks like the islands have filled up nicely despite the unprecedented
number of tropical storms this year. Let's hope the wx and conditions hold
up!

The DX-Pedition Register is also available anytime at:
http://www.mordor.com/wb2k

See you all from Zone 2. By the way, just got my new call in the nick of
time... I'll be VE2QRZ . ( I can see it now... "Hey VE2! What's the rest
of your call???")

73, John - WB2K / VE2QRZ

If no one minds I will compile these scores as they come in. I am sure there
will not be as many as there were with CQWW. I will not post as often,
unless there is a large response.

So just post your scores and I will compile them.

Put me on the list of contesters doing the JOTA thing this past weekend.

After the Annual pancake-breakfast fundraiser, 8 Cub Scouts from my son's den
arrived here for a demo. Started by walking them into the shack, and after all
the ooh-ing and ahh-ing stopped, I asked if anyone had any questions. Yup -
lots of 'em. Wrote 'em all down, then got through all of 'em one by one.

Even answered the "How far away can you talk?" one by relating my long-path
15M QSO with K5ZD about 15 years ago ("Texas - the long way around!").

FOund the same thing - 20 M was difficult to use. Too crowded, and hard for the
kids to copy. Calling CQ inevitably got answers from enthusiastic guys with
weak signals.

15 was much better (story of my life...). Worked some Carribbean and African
stations. Listened to ZD8Z for a bit, but he was way too busy. Just hearing
a guy on "that teeny little island way out there" was pretty cool, though.

ANyway, a splendid time was had by all. My kid's friends think his Dad's radio
stuff is pretty cool. Some of the parents got as big a kick as the kids did.

And I had a good time, too.

Doug K!DG

p.s. IF you were a host, make sure you get the neat patches for the kids to
put on their uniforms. I lost the address and ordering info, but the ARRL
has it on the BBS somewhere.

p.p.s. Leaving Tuesday A.M for Bonaire...

Propagation was pretty poor Saturday, but improved later on. Got some new
mode-countries, and had lots of fun as always.

The high point of the contest was having a BY answer my CQ; the low point
was not being able to get him out of ragchew mode and give me his age... no
points :-(

This was my first contest using full legal power -- it DOES make a
difference, mainly in fewer repeats. Most noticeable on the lower bands,
but could tell it on 20/15 too.
