Greetings, fellow contesters-
Regarding Billy's message, I'd be very interested in sponsoring a plaque.
However, I make about $11,000 a year, and $50 is just a bit high for my
expendable income level.
Is there anybody else out there in a similar financial situation that would
like to go "halfsies" on one with me? I think it's a pretty simple way to
"put back" into the system, and certainly worthy of my money (right next
to beans and rice!).

Thanks for all the replies! Here's the summary (about what I expected).
The Winner: Aluminum tubing from Texas Tower (14 replies). Downside is that
I need 4 verticals and the price is a bit high right now.
2. Irrigation Pipe (5 replies). Hard to transport and not real easy to find.
3. T.V. Mast (4 replies).
4. Thin wall conduit (3 replies). This was my choice, $20. per vertical
including stainless clamps.
5. Downspout (2 replies).
6. 1 reply each for PVC pipe, Chainlink fence top rail and my favorite,
solder food cans together! Sometimes I wonder if people read the post before
they reply!

As seen from my need for cheap verticals, I'm constructing a 40M 4
square. This was going to be ground mounted, but the subject of an elevated
4 square has now come up. I've determined my feed method already (approved
by RL himself!).
But, any hints or kinks? Is 6 feet high enough? 4 radials per on an
elevated system seems a lot nicer than 16 per on the ground! Does the feed
method change? All help would be appreciated!

Subject: Mobile engine noise

Well, I have finally decided to do a DXCC or so from the truck, but
am getting my plow cleaned by ignition noise. Rig is a TS-50 fed
directly off the battery. Noise level on the S meter about 1 to 1.5
with the engine off, and S 7-8 when on. (20 meters )Noise almost
disappears when the antenna is removed, so definitely getting it from
that source.
Antenna is a Hustler mounted on a burnished aluminum across the bed
tool box mounted about 1' from the rear of the bed. Also have 2 meter
5/8 wave about 2 feet away. Vehicle is a 1995 Ford Ranger. Have already
checked with Ford and they assure me it have radio suppression plugs
and ignition harness.
Have never operated mobile so have pretty much in the dark. One of the
guys here at HRO suggested grounding the tailpipe and am going to do
that tomorrow. Any suggestions would be appreciated, especially good
technical references. The 95 handbook doesn't even mention noise!
