Party! Texas is a BIG state. We need to put as many Texas Counties on the air
as possible. Please talk with your members and plan to be a part of this
years TQP. This can be a great exercise to practice emergency set-up,
prepare for Field Day, let the public see amateur radio in action or just get
out and have some fun. There will be special awards for clubs and groups
that activate counties. Enclosed, is also a copy of the rules. If you have
any questions please feel free to contact me for more information. Help us
start a real Texas Tradition and put the TQP back on the map!!
Remember: Just get on the air and call " CQ TQP any station anywhere for the
Texas QSO Party" We have to make the activity to make it a success. Even if
you can only operate for a few hours, you will make a difference!

Rules:
Texas stations work everyone. Others work Texas Only.
Only one transmitted signal at a time. CW QSO's must be made in CW subbands,
except on 160. Work stations once per band/mode for QSO points, work Texas
Armadillo stations again on same band or mode as they change counties for
multiplier credit only. Multipliers count only once regardless of band or
mode. CW- 1.805 and 40 kHz up, Phone- 1.850, 3.850, 7.230, 14.250, 21.300,
28.450.
Scoring:
Score 2 pts/QSO on Phone and 3pts/QSO on CW. Final score is QSO points x
Texas Counties (max 254). Texas stations multiply by States, Canadian
Provinces and Texas Counties. DX counts for QSO points only.
Awards:
Texas Wine Baskets and Plaques to top class finishers
Special Awards to Texas Clubs with most logs submitted
Special Awards to Multi-single and Texas Armadillo Expedition with the most
Novice/Tech operators ( List them with a /T or /N in your list of operators

Not true....We had a problem with our other gateway....Installed our own
and we are back on line....

It seems to me that this is one instance of technology being
applied in an inappropriate fashion. KI3V makes a good case
for increasing the potential of high speed RADIO links instead
of "high speed" land-line links....
Which brings up an interesting point - If Internet links are
not considered illegal for contests, then it only follows that
using land-line via voice link would also be legal - yes/no??
Your using the same communications medium - telephone link -

I've always wondered about this. If I used a 10 Mhz Packetcluster link
and operated Multi-op/Single transmitter, does the 10 Mhz station
constitute having a second signal transmitting at the same time??
Would it be legal to link into Packetcluster via, 10 Mhz or another band,
while on a contest expedition to the carribean?

Hello everyone!
Put in my vote for allowing Internet clusters and links to be used
during contests. Simply, they add to the fun. In addition to offering
greater cluster access to those living in areas with low local packet
activity, these connections provide access to greater information, which
inherently makes strategy formulation more interesting (although more
complicated--which is more interesting in itself). When I check the
OH2BUA Webcluster and see what Europe is hearing, it gives a nice snapshot
of what stations are active and who I should be listening for when I get
propagation to that part of the world. Maybe I spend extra time listening
for that rare mult--maybe I don't. Either way, there's an added element
to the game.
Furthermore, I just don't see how this necessarily violates rules
prohibiting the use of non-amateur communications to solicit QSO's/make
contacts OR endangers radio contesting in general. Under current rules
(ARRL at least), you couldn't send a "talk" request over the Internet to
arrange a QSO or even spot yourself. You could only receive the spots and
spot others.
Second, no-one is suggesting supplanting radio contests with
Internet-only contests. A great part of the fun is in setting up the
antennas, the stations and making contacts on the air using radios. Until
the day comes when the contest community stops enjoying those aspects of
radio contesting, I don't think we have much to worry about from access to
Internet clusters and links.

I understand your thought but .............
Many areas, yours included are at a very distinct disadvantage
during contests. Especially multi singles and multi multis who
may use packet freely and compete with the east coast where
radios fulfill the requirements we all desire.
Here in Florida, our connection ends at the Georgia line. All
we can connect to are stations in Florida period. The Southeast
packet group doesn't want to add us to their list because they
have too many connects already (according to them).
So the southeast group has a very distinct advantage during
contests in that they are getting mucho spots "by radio" and
we are getting .... .
To level the playing field, spots should be permitted in any way
obtainable with rules to prohibit situations like setting up skeds
on internet. Will someone cheat? probably, but they also are
probably running 5 KW too.
Yes, the spots aren't obtained by radio, but then there must
be some other areas that things aren't pure enough in contest.
Personally, I enjoy the element of spots appearing on my screen
as I work a contests. But I would like to think that if I am
being placed in a category that allows everyone to use spots,
then I want the opportunity to see the same spots they are.
