I believe you are confusing geographic position with the various contest rules.
9Y is 11 degrees NORTH, 62.5 degrees West and is DEFINITELY in the Northern
Hemisphere. However, that has nothing to do with what continent it is
asscoiated
with, and 9Y is associated in our thinking with S. America. It is indeed in
the Northern Hemisphere, as are several other S.American countries. The equator
is quite some distance south.

Apparently this is a bad weekend for AL1200s. About five hours into the
contest, my 3CX1200A7 started arcing from grid to anode. Fortunately, the
line fuse blew instantly, and no other harm was done. Fortunately also,
it's still in warranty. (whew!)
The antenna relay in mine has given no trouble at all, so I think you just
have a bad one. Almost always, a little careful cleaning of the contacts
and possibly some very light bending of the moving arm will fix it. You
shouldn't have to replace it.

K1VR: Just curious, Bill. Why? I've used SS nuts and
bolts on my Rohn 25 and am well pleased because in places
around the tower where I used the Rohn galvanized nuts and
bolts, those have rusted after 14 years -- but the SS stuff
still looks good as new. You just have to remember to
tighten it up a few days after installation and a year after
installation.

Hi all,
I love to work contest when it comes to the bigger ones. I can even pitch in
on some smaller ones to give some QSO=B4s. But lately I have also become=
very
annoyed by some of the smaller contests that we have on the bands. Being in
Europe means that there can be a contest almost every weekend on either SSB
or CW. Well I don=B4t mind that. If it was only one mode!! Having smaller
contests that occupy both SSB and CW the same weekend is beyond me! I wish
they would consider leaving the DX-portion of the band free aswell so we
could continue to work DX. I can understand the need to utilize the
DX-portion of a band in a major contest where most of the contacts will be
DX-QSO=B4s anyway and the coverage of the bands force people to use all the
available part of the bands, but to have a smaller contest where the main
part of the contacts will be within one continent utilizing the DX-portion
is not very smart.
I know that people in the respective countries feel their contest is
important but I really belive that there should be a cleanup among them and
maybe even some kind of coordination
so that several of the contests are during the same weekend. Then the
respective contest would mean more to the people who take part as they would
get more QSO=B4s and people could send the log to whatever contest comittee
they liked.=20
I am quite aware that we need some smaller contests over the year so that
people can train their abilities before joining in on the CQ WW and others
as otherwise it can become a big mess but I strongly urge the commitees
involved to re-think and utilize only ONE mode during a weekend or if they
are so desperate to have both modes to have the 24 first hours on CW and the
last 24 hours on SSB. That way the ones who don=B4t take part atleast have a
chance to be on one of the modes.=20
So I suggest the following,
1. Put a paragraph in the smaller contests to stay away from the
DX-portion!
2. Coordinate some of the smaller contest that have the same exchange.
3. Make sure the contests only use one mode! or if needed to timesplit
on CW/ SSB.
Who know=B4s it might even help the contest grow.

Yes I wrote one paragraph twice and that is because I think it can really
help getting non-contest people so they wont be so hostile to the contests.
For those who care I have taken part in contests that utilize both modes in
one weekend and probably will again but I really wish the organizer would
consider following my ideas above.
It is the same with DX-peditions who use the whole band for a pileup... Who
needs it?
