Hmmmm???? Yes, I remember my video from VP8CFM had this calendar off to the
left that kept encrouching into the picture. She would have kept me
interested in warm sands to the north, or the south, depending on your own

What a bunch of petulant pessimism Sig! It's about time you got on the
ball, as our club has, to TAKE ADVANTAGE of the tremendous supply of raw
material which No-Code licensing has provided. Many of these people are far
smarter than you or I ever were, or will be. All they need is a little
guidance from some experienced (UNsegregated) Elmers, and up the licensing
ladder they go - right to Extra in many cases. Perhaps that's why our local
club is facing its second move in about four years - because we're running
out of space again. We integrated the newcomers totally into our FD effort,
and for the first time we've probably made the top ten in our category. Try
it - You'll like it!

Other two operators dropped out and I decided it was too much work to do
the annual trek to the Florida Keys alone. Set up in the kitchen to at
least get out of the ham shack - and have snacks more convenient. No
interesting stories, no thunderstorms, rain, snow, sleet, or hail. No
equipment failures, no bugs, etc. I did confirm that for next year, my
new battery does have enough storage to power the station for the duration.
The enthusiasm was missing. When rate became very slow on 40M, I packed
it in and went to bed for a few hours. Highlights were being called by
KL7 on 20M and two good runs on 10M of 60+ Q's/hour.
All in all, a good practice run for the real thing next year...

AC4RF and AC4YN.
ACtually, both were long gone when I was first licensed.
The closest I ever got to Tibet was Gus Browning in the 60's.
But they might still make a good multiplier in the DX contests.

Hi Jim, I have had to send my TS-850S back to Kenwood East Coast twice,
once during warranty and once out of warranty.
Both times they did a very good job.
The warranty work was done within the week received.
The out of warranty work was "Scheduled" 30 days after receipt of my rig.
The work was done in a hour of the 31th day. I didn't like the wait,
but the girl that answered the phone was up front about what was going
on, no BS.
Jim, on any of the newer rigs, I would only sent it to the company
warranty repair station. Someone else maybe able to fix it, but then
have to wait weeks for the part to come in.

As W2UP said, this means almost entirely 45 bauds Baudot (aka Murray).
Even after very little (contest only) operation, I find I can recognize by
ear CQ, RYs & my call. While that is useless, it has conditioned me
somewhat about what my PK-232 can or might not copy. This has proven handy
at deciphering the crap on the screen into half decent runs - often close
to & occasionally better than what CW could do under similar conditions.
It's cool, too.
Stick to roughly the same baud rate & shift (still fitting into CW filters)
& add any ARQ-like error correction & the machine will beat the best op
just about every time on it's own. That crucial operator element that
makes radiosport great is lost - not cool. I guess state of the art
digital modes like packet are better for things like clusters or on FD
through your local digipeater (gee, I knew the States were getting bad, but
this awful - definitely no point in coming back now...).
