I believe W3LPL's TX antennas on 80 are high fixed 2el quads. He uses the
4square mainly for RX.
I occasionally beat 'LPL in a pileup too but I don't think this is a valid
comparison of two antennas. According to my observations using AO, a
2el 80m quad at 170' has roughly TWICE (say 6dBi vs. 12 dBi) the forward gain
of a 4square!!!

Gentlemen,
I remember some discussion on receiver protection fusing for various radios
back a few months. Can you refresh me on what is the best location to fuse
in the TS940S and the TS950SDX. Also, what is the best way to bring the
fuse outside the radio without taking a hammer and chisel to the case?? I am
looking at using the TS950SDX as the main rig and the the TS940S as the
second rig for SS CW and PHONE at W0SD. Thanks for your input. 73

Surely you must have meant California, or one of those undesirable

Well, aren't you up on things! Sounds like you're qualified to keep us all

Hello Rick and fellow contesters,
Let me step forward and confess to the readers that many years ago during the
CQWW Phone Contest I too made this mistake. Here's what happened... I turned
on the radio one saturday and heard the bands filled with DX. It didn't take
long for the excitement to build and the exchange to be figured out. I loaded
up the computer and started working stations as fast as I could. It was
contagious. It was fun. I tried to load the CT "Check Call" window with the
same callsign on all bands. It became a challenge. DX, stateside, whatever,
it didn't matter. I had set my own personal goal!
Well the problem with my technique was that I became wrapped up in the contest
excitement and never bothered to read the RULES. I was quite embarrassed
several
days later when I discovered the error of my ways! I'm thankful nobody cut me
to shreds on the air. I speculate other casual operators get sucked into the
excitement like I did and become the "problem stations" everyone is talking
about.
Now I read the rules BEFORE the contest (and sometimes refresh read during). I
have grown and learned. I can tell you about other (non-ham) stupid things I
have done during my life. And I have grown and learned.
Numerous comments have been made regarding bringing fresh blood into the contest
community. Chastising a neophyte contester on the air is counter-productive.
Work 'em and move on. Educate them after the contest.
