Hallo Peter,

send me NA 10.* sample file (one line will be OK), and CT 9.27 .RES sample
file and I'll write short CONV softvare for You. (Send me, please, *.PRN
and not *.QDF, as it is a bit more complicated for me to convert BIN files).
Both of sample files should include all headers too.

OK wait a minute... I can work all bands and submit that for the club but
submit a 40 meter (or 80/20 whatever) single band log for my own entry??

Mick (whoever you are):

>From the Motherhood and Apple Pie standpoint, moving stations in the
circumstances you describe to an otherwise underutilized band is a good
thing, since it increases activity there.

But from the standpoint of competition I find the practice distasteful at
best and illegal at worst. By dragging multipliers from another band you are
using resources that should not be available to a single-band entrant. I
consider this no different from a single-op looking at packet cluster spots.

I lost interest in CW Sweepstakes when I learned that the competition was
finding multipliers like VE8, etc, in the phone bands, and dragging them
down to the CW segment for a contact. In my opinion, competing in a CW
contest precludes the use of SSB as a resource, as well as the use of other
bands as a resource in a single-band competition.

"Dance with the one who brung you."

Am I alone in believing that we should continue to make it possible for
someone of limited means to be competitive by building a station for a
single band and mode? This year, 10 meters single band could have been won
with a Ten Tec Scout, a cheap, used, low power amplifier, and wire arrays
hung in a few trees. You wouldn't even have needed a computer, nor an alarm
clock. To build a station like that, only to be bested by someone operating
from an otherwise unused multi-band superstation and moving multipliers from
other bands, would be very discouraging to a newcomer.

Well now... it seems to me that if these two trivial things are keeping =
you from a more fulfilling life, then you should abandon them =
immediately. That'll just leave more spectrum and less contest =
opponents for the rest of us.

Honestly, I don't understand what the big deal is. Change a call - who =
cares. Contesting has changed over the years and will most likely =
continue to change as technology provides us more tools to be =
competitive.

I got on the reflectors to hear the opinions of others - they are =
opinions. There are as many opinions as there are recipients on the =
reflectors. There is very little else to be gained from it. So, if you =
don't like the refs - unsubscribe (which you've indicated you are).

Find something better in life - other than contesting. Work on cars, =
knit, spend more time with the family, become a work-aholic, learn to =
play guitar, or anything that may lead to a better life.

Above all, have fun. Life's too short to waste it on contesting {tongue =
planted firmly in cheek}.

Right out of the box, don't even think about flaming this message=20
because the next message is an unsubscribe. But then that won't stop
anything, will it?

Well, the worst thing I've done lately is apply for a vanity call.
Yes, I got one. It was on my list, so I like it. Not my number 1, but=20
then that's why we were given 25 choices.
Now I'm sorry I did it. Every where I go, reflector, 2 meters, HF,=20
somebody has a comment, mostly a useless one, mostly from people who
have not changed their call. End result - I'm sick and tried of hearing
about it.

As for the reflector, well, I subscribe, maybe to learn something from=20
the contest experts. I'd like to know where they are. I'm wearing out
the delete message routine in my mail package!!!.

As for contests, all they bring anymore is more flaming about the rules, =

how it's run, etc. etc.. Seems to me there must be something better
in life.

All in all, I wish I could say, "It's been fun!", but it hasn't.

Hope your all enjoying yourselves.

I have had DVP hum problems when I run the DVP cable along the back of =
my operating table. Not sure if the hum comes from running under the =
Alpha 76 transformer or just from all of the other parallel cables.

When I moved the DVP cable to the front of the radios all of the hum =
went away.

At ZL3GQ, he had bad hum with a DVP. My laptop computer and DVP had no =
hum. This pointed us toward a power problem. Finally found some =
voltage transformer in his station that was not properly grounded. =
Fixed it and all of the hum disappeared!

Moral: Try everything!

Some weeks ago, I inquired here about cures for DVP hum. After trying =
the
common ground solution to eliminate ground loops, I concluded that =
isolation
transformers were needed. They arrived today from Radio Shack (see =
below)
and just for fun I tried a proper heavy-weight ground lead from my =
computer

more
hum! Just as theory, but not always practice, said it should be. I had
checked the theory earlier, using a clip lead between the computer =

and the ground bus, but for some reason that didn't do the trick. The
zip-cord with spade lugs crimped and soldered on each end did, though. =
Go
figure!

The calls were put by there old call and in that call area. Also you will
notice a number next to the old call. That is the number of the choice
they receieved. The calls are in the order they were receieved by me.

Also Scott, KA9FOX has all the vanity call info on his home page with a
complete listing if anyone is interested.

I am sorry if this format laps some of the email addresses around. They
are just to long to get all on one line. I did put the new email addresses
people gave me on here so if the mail bounces you will know why.

Subject: KS9K Tour QRV & www.contesting.com updates
Message-ID: <199612011834.NAA24278@paris.akorn.net>

I've finally found some time to finish some things on the contesting.com
site. Paul, KS9K, has sent me some great photos of his place. There is a
link to the tour on the home page (http://www.contesting.com).

Scott Tuthill, K7ZO, has sent me a newly revised Contest Station
descriptions file. I'll try to get this posted before long. The contest
station descriptions are detailed station descriptions of every contester
Scott could find information about. He sends it to me in several formats
including Excel, Word, and I convert it to html for browsing on the web.
It's probably best viewed in Excel however.

Just a reminder... The Stu Perry Distance Challenge contest is coming up at
the end of this month. This is a 160M Grid Square type of contest. You can
check out the rules at contesting.com. There are MANY plaques and awards
for this inaugural event.

Randy Thompson (K5ZD) is posting Contest Stories (Like the cool stuff K3ZO
writes after every contest). It makes great motivational reading before
each contest.

The contester email registry is QRV. If you havn't entered yourself, please
do so. Don't send me your information. It's on the web page and is meant
to be self administering.

And as always... KN4T (Walt, Mr. Low Power DX Contester) is keeping the best
set of contesting links available.
