For the past 17 years I have conducted a Special Event on Christmas Eve and
Christmas Day ... originally to help finish up 5BWAS. Found that it was a
good exercise, and keeps one on their toes for contesting.

Since the "special" part of this is the callsign phonetics on voice, it is by
necessity a "phone only" event .... since 95% of my operation is on CW, this
keeps me in practice for the phone contests.

Dear friends from the reflector,
After 4 years waiting for the switch for my FL2100Z (which damaged in 1992)
without success. I gave up and decided to purchase another amplifier and
sell the FL2100Z. There is a ham in Rio (close to my house) selling an used
DRAKE L4B! I have never seen one so I would like to know:
1) Which bands does it cover?
2) What is the output power?
3) Is it rugged for contests?
4) What is the plate voltage? What is plate current?
5) Is it grounded grid?
6) 100w input is enough to deliver full output power?

NA V10 update is on the LTA BBS. TRLog supports the contest in the most
recent version. If you are using CT, use VHF Contest as the contest type
and log all QSO's on one band (144Mhz for example). We will convert the
CT logs and score them for you.

Barry, I presume that your remark was at least partially TIC ;-)
Most of us "volunteers" are trying to give something back to the
contest and other contesters....by trying to keep logs clean, by
trying to keep up with working out "loop holes" due to technology,
or otherwise, and by providing a FUN event in which the entrants
feel (trust) that the results are indeed representative of the efforts made.
We try to balance all of the above while providing some excitement
and motivation for hams all over the world to "get on" and continue
to make the CQWW the best there is. That's plenty of compensation!
Oh yeah, we do get a free subscription to CQ Magazine too.
However, if you feel strongly about it, I'm sure we would all be more
than willing to accept whatever "stipend" the general public feels they
are willing to send our way! You can make mine out to CASH. :-)

Hallo guys
I need info about software for contester training. I used PED for a lot
untill I change my PC to an Epson ActionNote, a laptop. PED doesn't work
and nobody seems know solution (It doesn't work with a 2 line autoexec and
config. No TSR nothing).
But this is not the problem. Is there any other training software fer CW
contester ??

I finally was able to get everything resolved. After a couple of more
questions and alot more trouble shooting and two people working on it, we
are up and running.
The reason it was never making any noise on the start up was a bad
trace. The trace from Q1 to R11 ( I Think ) was bad. We never got any
audio out from the unit. HENCE, reason the keyer was not appearing to
work properly.
To also add salt to my wound and eat a lot of crow, I laso had normally
closed switches. ( gues I grabbed the wrong pack ). Before you all beat
up to bad. The Keyer never worked ( or appeared to work ) with out the
switches.
Idiom was much more helpful the second time calling. He asked me
differant questions and we found the switches. The third time we called
and asked about the audio, he said check the 2N2222 transistor. Well it
checked OK and even tried a new NPN transistor. This still did not
work. We checked speakers, resistors, even checked the output voltage.
What we found was good to output. But nothing to the resistor. That was
the reason for the problem. No Guys this was not bad soldering. It was
noticed with an ohm meter and no continuity via the trace.
After I got it working I did call Idiom up explained what I found. This
was his first bad trace on a board!! He was sorry for the inconvenience
with the board. I also apolagized for thinking the chips were bad.
I feel that he still makes a great keyer kit. It shows that there are many
reasons that a keyer may not work. I had never thought to check traces
on the board. I had did have the help from K2XA in trouble shooting on
a Saturday evening. I helped him fix a PC and he helped me with the
keyer :-) What a great hobby!!
I will repect the owners request, I am not going to post his phone
number. I believe he operates from his home. I am sorry if this causes
an inconvenience, but I do respect his wishes...
Thank You to all who suggested differant fixes, offered to check the
chips and keyer. I also want to say buy a great keyer. It was nice to
play with a new toy, Maybe I will treat my self to a new key????
