I have searched everywhere and I cannot locate the telephone
number of Industrial Comm. Engineering. (I.C.E.). Maybe they
operate under a different name. I need to order the upgrade
parts for their Bandpass filters. Anyone have a good tel. number
for them??? Your help is much appreciated.

Dear John,
I just got my Jan./Feb. '97 NCJ and read your letter about
allowing dual submissions for ARRL club competition. I have
already sent a letter to NCJ in response to N6IG's letter
in Nov./Dec.'96 NCJ. Hopefully it will be published in the
next issue.
Please explain how allowing dual submissions will increase
activity. Are you saying that people will not submit a score
or get on the air for a contest because they are pressured to
submit for more than one club? I find this very hard to
believe. If one station is allowed to submit his score for 2
clubs, how does this increase activity? It is still one
station on the air for that particular contest, not 2. Where
is the increase in activity?
You say the creation of more clubs will not hurt the big
Unlimited clubs. This is exactly the problem with dual
submissions. The local club category will be hurt. It will
allow stations from large clubs to submit scores to either a
paper club or the local general interest club and the local
club category will become "Team Contesting" for the big
clubs. True local clubs, especially those in low population
areas, will have no chance to compete against local clubs who
have several members that belong to an Unlimited club and can
submit to both groups. We must make a choice where we want
our score to go. If this means one club loses a score, so be
it. You can't have it both ways.
I belong to the Hudson Valley Contesters & DX'ers. Our club
was formed to compete in the local club category. We are not
a paper club. Most of us do not want to join a larger club,
yet we are constantly being recruited by a larger club. We
get the feeling that the large clubs think that small clubs
exist just to provide them with more members, and you are not
a real contester unless you belong to one. We decided at the
begining that our members would not be pressured into
submiting a score or prevented from operating someplace where
the score would not count for the club because we felt that
in the long run it would benifit our club. I said in my
letter to NCJ that a reasonable compromise would be to submit
your ARRL scores to your local club and to the large club for
non ARRL contests such as CQ WW.
We have had discussions at our club meetings about
decisions that have been made by the CAC and changes
that have occurred to contests lately. The bottom line is
that our members get the impression that things are being
driven by what is good for Unlimited clubs and their members
and not what is good for contesting as a whole. While it
might be a good idea to revisit the club competition rules
for determining categories, with regard to mileage and number
of entries, allowing dual submissions is not a good idea
and should not be reconsidered by the CAC. I would urge
other local clubs and their members to let their CAC rep
know how they feel about this issue.

It's pretty easy to remember: 800-ICE-COMM
They carry several products of interest to contesters--filters, lightning
protection, etc.--but their commercial business is so strong, they don't
concentrate much on the ham market. Still, I highly recommend their
stuff.
