Quite right you were (almost)!  Many thanks for the helpful info.  This
wasn't the understanding I got at all from reading the manual, but I now
discover that the keyer does work pretty close to the way you just
described.  The only difference I see is that it only seems to want "???"
and not "????" in order to embed a sequence number to correspond to "Remote
Control Unit Key #1".  (Why the manual would label this key the "CQ Message"
key when that is the only one which will take a sequence number is beyond
me.  It looks like certain engineers didn't spend a whole lot of time
talking with certain other tech. writers.)  If I put "????" in the message,
then I will get a "?" character trailing the sequence number.  You didn't
say whether "Remote Control Unit Key #2" (which is labelled the "contest #"
key) will accept a sequence number in its message, but it doesn't seem to be
doing it on my rig.  In orther words, you have to put the sequence number
into the "CQ Message", and the "Contest #" key cannot contain a sequence
number.  (Yes, I meant to say what I just said!)

Why couldn't Yaesu have done the same thing Kenwood did with the TS-870 and
embed the Super Cmos chip in the rig?  That is a vastly better keyer than
this thing the MP has in it!

Does anyone know the difference in dbi betwenn a full size vertical - 90
degrees (1/4 wavelenght) and a shortned one - 45 degrees  (base loading
only). Please consider the same ground system, same location, height etc...
Which angle the peak performance happens in both cases (same?)? Is that
possible to FWD pattern plots to me (I don't have any antenna program)?

I evaluated my previous question and I checked that the difference is not
constant since the ground losses may vary. Please consider the following
information:

Rgl = 30 ohms
Rgl = 20 ohms
Rgl = 10 ohms
Rgl = 0 ohms (perfect ground)

So I will have four different situations to compare a 90 degrees vertical
with a base loading 45 degrees shortned vertical.
