As a four square owner for many years, I know a few things for sure. On
average, a dipole strung between two towers at 100' is about the same signal
strength into Europe as the four square (with raised radials). However,
there are vertical nights and there are horizontal nights. Some nights the
verticals are louder by 10 or 15 (real) db, which is huge. For VK/ZL, JA and
the rest of Asia including zone 18 and 23, the verticals have always been
better. I've worked all 40 zones with the verticals and have had consistent
results working JA long path at sunset in the winter. The dipole has a very,
very tough time with that path. I *love* my verts.
