State QSO parties seldom have the level of activity to generate runs of
QSO's (unless you are in that state). Sometimes these can be slow for
those outside looking in but in the Georgia QSO in the early 80's the top
non Georgia station worked well over 100 Q's and this was before mobiles
hitting many counties.

I enjoy limited activity contests such as the VK/ZL or the YL/OM and point
to them as a way to learn practical DXing and looking. The outside winner
of these contests learns where to look, when to look, and how to find the
stations to work. These types of contests reward the person who can find
the most and work im. Contesting combines running and the art of finding
the stations that lead to a certificate or plaque. Since only a few can
run all thru a contest the rest of us run when we can and hunt (S&P) to
maximize our score.

Acquiring the knack of hunting is an asset even to those who command a
"big" station.
