Tim - I can't speak for others, but I omit it to keep the rate up. The
amount of time spent sending DE (.5 second?) over the course of a 48 hour
contest can be significant. It adds no information and does nothing to
increase the operator's score.
When the time spent doing callsign fills/repeats exceeds the time that
would have been spent sending DE (and assuming the AGN was not caused by
QRM/QRN), then I will change. I don't think it will happen though.
Is there a possibility of converting your equipment to PIN-diode or vacuum
relay switching? It would solve your problem and add reliability.
