A quick word about loops and yagis...

I have messed around with quad loops and yagis since the 70s. Both are
excellent performers and from my experience, I don't think there is a whole
lot of difference in them on the radiated signal. However, I have found
quads are more broadbanded and hear a lot better. As far as the mechanics
go, I'll take a Yagi any day.

With this being said though, I am currently using loop arrays on 75 meters.
They are flat topped delta loops with the tops being around 160-170 feet
high. I have a 4 el facing Europe and 2 el facing JA and a 2 el facing
VK/ZL. The systems are suspended by a rope system from my towers. They are
killer antennas. I believe LPL uses a similar system and I know KC1XX has
the stacked quads.

Mechanically, my loops antennas are superior to a 75 meter Yagi and have
been up for four years with no problems. Probably the equivalent Yagis at
the same height would work about as well, but on 75 would they stay up as
long and would they be as easy to maintain?...nope. Sometimes quads are the
answer, sometimes yagis. Nothing is black and white...always gray. It
depends on the band.
