Good question, Pete. My theory is band compression. When fewer bands are
open simultaneously, there will be more people on each open band tuning
around. When fewer bands are *expected* to be open simultaneously,
everyone will head towards the highest open band at the same time with the
expectation that it won't be open again tomorrow or even an hour or two
from now.
