I thought all of the hoop-a-la was about self spotting.
As it stands self spotting is cited in the rules of many
contests as being forbidden for all categories. Even categories
that can use packet.
So instead of letting everyone use the cluster to solve the self spotting
issue I think it would make more sense to just let the guys that
are using packet to self spot at will.
Of course I guess you still have the self spotter problem for those that
are in categories that are not allowed to use packet.
So I guess that is how this has been twisted into a "make packet
usable for everyone all the time" discussion.
In any event if that happens we also need to clearly allow self spotting.
Think about this for a moment.
Then we can all use logging programs that put out a self spot every time
a CQ is called. Maybe the logging program could have an option to allow
a self spot to be put out for each QSO logged to with the callsign of the
station worked put in the comment field - or just put the spots out as
being spotted by the station worked.
That should produce a few spots.
Now do you understand one of the many good reasons why many contests have
rules that do not allow self spotting?
