Doug asks,
"Does the trustee have to be present every time the club call is used?"

No, of course not, in many cases (ie a Field Day operation) that may not be
physically possible. However, the trustee is nevertheless responsible for
proper operation of the club call and the station that is operating under
that call -- that's the whole point of having a trustee!

However, if the trustee can not be present, then s/he should appoint SOMEONE
(or ones) in their stead as the control operator in charge. And said
control op(s) will be equally responsible for the operation.

And -- remember, just because the FCC no longer REQUIRES a log doesn't mean
that it isn't a good idea to MAINTAIN one. So if in doubt, then the
trustee or station license should themselves require a log be kept with the
pertinent information (who was the op, when, etc.) for their own sake. Even
though it is not required, it would still be considered a legal record
should the need arise!

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go back to how many Marlins it takes
to dance on the Babe's grave... blast it...

The "someone" who's borrowing your callsign is the control operator.
*They* must be present at the control point.

Consider the situation where the call being used is assigned to a club.
Who, then, is the control operator? Does the trustee have to be present
every time the club call is used?

(This debate would have gone away days ago if the FCC still issued
station licenses and operator licenses separately<grin>! -- or if it was
still required to keep a log with the name and signature of the control
operator on duty..)
