Gotta agree with Dave:

Even at the start (sometimes) I'll get requests for repeats on single-digit numbers. As a result, I always send a SINGLE leading zero for Q's 1 thru 9.

Context: I never take SS seriously. I'll get on for a few hours later in
the contest. When I make my first QSO, most others are a few hundred along.

Observation: I found sending "1 B VO1AU 75 NL" (or 2 or 3 or 15 or 70...)
resulted in a LOT of requests for fills or repeats on numbers. Those
requests for fills and repeats diminished once I hit three-digit numbers.
When I send leading zeroes (usually as "T"s), I did not get asked for
repeats

Conclusion: SS is a cult, but a benign one.
