I remember back in the winter of '03. Those were cold, long nights, yes
sir. Me and the boys had nothing to do but sit inside and stare at the
fire, waiting for spring to thaw all that cold.
Then it dawned on me, I could be using all that time sitting around to do
something useful. So I grabbed all my old logs and some 3x5 cards and one
of those little metal boxes. I began making a file system of all the guys I
had ever worked and made up a card for each guy, and put down his name,
state, section, the precedence he sent in the last SS, the year he got his
ticket, all that, information gleaned painstakingly from old logs. I figure
it's gonna be a kind of a "secret weapon."
Now that its spring again, I'm warming up the old fingers by practicing
sending with one hand and sorting through the index cards with the other.
Watch out in the fall of '04.
