The organization has been around for quite a while. I can remember back
in 1968 when I had a brand-new General class ticket, I'd hear people
occasionally calling "CQ FOC" around 7040 kHz. I tried answering them
but everyone involved just ignored me. This struck me as very odd as a
youngster and new ham. I never did find out what it was back then.
Fast forward a few years and I found out it stood for "First Class CW
Operator's Club" and was founded by Louis Varney, G5RV, who I later
became friends with over the air.
