(In the interest of cleaner bands I'm
repeating this which I've posted to all 3
Ten-Tec reflectors).
Someone recently complimented me on
my CW signal and it reminded me of something
that all Orion owners should be aware of. In the
CW Menu, the CW Rise/Fall settings are very
understated. They can be varied from 3 ms to
10 ms, but these numbers are actually much
lower, which would cause key clicks if you set
anything lower than 6 or 7. I normally set mine
to 10 for <30 WPM and only set it higher when
I am sending faster CW, such as in a contest.
I suggest all set Rise/Fall = 10 if you
want to have an EXTREMELY clean CW signal.
For QRQ, this may be a little too soft but please
do not set it anywhere less than 6 (which is even
marginal IMHO). Ten-Tec is aware of this
discrepancy but as yet has not modified the
firmware to correct the Rise/Fall settings.
Your CW neighbors will thank you and
may even give you compliments if you do this!
73, Bill W4ZV
