I have heard of Dunestar failures while used in conjunction with tuners. In
each case the Dunestar was completely destroyed. Based on this finding I
purchased two ICE 419As. During the VP8WWW DXpedition we blew the 10M
section in both units. This was apparently caused by capacitor overheating
which was the result of using a tuner on a less-than-perfect vertical
antenna. I called ICE and they sent new caps the next day (overnight
delivery).

At home and during several Field Day operations there has been no problem on
10M, likely because no tuner has been required.

I've been very please with the Dunestar filters, both at my previous station
in Illinois and also in Aruba. I have used them with various antennas, some
with less than perfect SWR, and I would definitely choose them again.

Kelly,
I think many of us would appreciate your sending a summary of responses.
Personally, I have two ICE 419s at home, and W6LD and I have two more at
P49Y-P40L. I've had no problem at home, but we've blown out various
sections of the filters on Aruba several times (mostly 10m, but also 15m and
160m), and never with more than 100 watts input. Not sure what the problems
are, but they appear to be the capacitors. One issue in fixing them is that
the capacitance values vary from unit to unit that we have, so it is a bit
confusing.
