And Ron points out the underlying issue. Many of the terms used within contest
rules are undefined, leading to multiple understandings of the same item.
Even though these ambiguities have existed for decades, the system seems to
work so, "Who cares?" :)
New systems and strategies are being developed at a very rapid pace, in this
21st Century. Clarifying terms like "spotting" and "assistance" can go a very
long way in helping developers to build products and strategies that support
events more universally acceptible to the contest sponsor -- minimizing
controversy and accelerating even more creative development (a foundational
component of the Amateur spirit).
