I agree, that is a ridiculous assertion. Making a directional CQ or CQ
(specific area) does not involve assistance from a third party at all
and as far as I know is allowed by any and all contest sponsors.

However... this is not the same as broadcasting your needs, such as
"Does anyone know where I can find a VO1?" That would involve a third
party and would put one in the assisted class.
