Barry I have personal 'first-hand' knowledge of 4 guys, with to much
time/money on their hands, who did side-by-side comparisons. Every one of
them picked the 7800. Only one of them is a serious DXer and none of them
are serious contesters. Their reasons were all over the board from
ergonomics' to audio quality, both tx/rx.
In listening to them on-the-air, without any 'pre-radio/audio' processing
they really don't sound that different. Maybe the 7800 sounds smoother but
not much. With the 'pre-processing' they sounded exactly the same.
