The KT-34XA is a beam that must be assembled right to work right. Mine was
originally a KT-34X
(the X means extended boom). I had great luck with mine winning several
ARRL and CQ WW plaques and single band USA top scores. The KLM and my
original 40 (a 2 el Mosley) lived well
together. It likes my Cushcraft too.

I bought the 1985 upgrade kit but did mot install it until the early 90's
and although installed correctly
the beam just went south. SWR was high on 20, 15 worked better at right
angles and only 10 was close to the original performance. Bruce sent me
another upgrade kit and after installation all was well again.

Unless you actually used a 34XA when it worked right you would not know the
difference.

I agree its time to compare the KT-36XA to the Skyhawk, X-7, TH-11 et al.
