Critical word "not" was left out:

And, CT did *NOT* force the sending of 5NN.

Paul,

My point is that the default of sending 5NN had nothing to do with CT. And,
CT did force mandate the sending of 5NN. You could program anything in that
you wanted. You could hit Shift-F2 and change the exchange message to send
579 or whatever you wanted.

>From my perspective, it seems that people have enough trouble getting
callsigns right. Worrying about the balance of the exchange is a waste of
time given how many busted callsigns there are.

Do I care if the exchange is something else? No. I also cannot imagine why
anyone would care what the exchange is. It is what it is in each contest and
I would rather not have to deal with a change, but if someone would want to
change it from RST (5NN) & Zone/State to operator's age for example, that
would be OK with me, but then the AA contest would no longer be unique.

The problem with age would be that some age numbers are not good to have to
send. This could lead to people sending numbers that were not their real
age. Imagine the discussions here if that were to happen!

The difference is that users were locked in to sending 599
in every QSO. Even if they wanted to send something else,
it wouldn't let them.

What's not clear is whether you are defending the exchange
of 599 in every contest QSO.

I have suggested replacing RST with Serials. Do you agree?
If not, what would you suggest?
