I wrote a message along these lines a few weeks after this debate started
but moved it into my drafts folder. I didn't post it. I went as far as
looking at the ARRL and CQ websites to see whether there were any "Goals and
Objectives" defined for this aspect of the hobby. I could not find any. I
only found the short term goal stated at the beginning of the specific
contests. "The objective is to work as many stations in the contest
period... blah blah blah".
IMO, there should be an overall statement from the contest organizers
establishing the Goals, Objectives, and/or Purpose for promoting and running
contests. Can anyone tell me what the ARRL and CQ position is? Did I
overlook something?
Maybe this approach is too "corporate speak" for a hobby like this?
