I'm a musician and MP-3 recorders are becoming very popular and are dropping
in price very rapidly.
While some logging software enables stereo recording of SO2R contests (or
main and second receivers), some may desire to use a more direct approach.
Currently, there is a Zoom H2 recorder on sale through Sam Ash music that is
quite well suited for recording long contests. It will record directly to
.WAV, .WMV, or .MP3 formats. Depending on the format used, you get anywhere
from a couple of hours to hundreds of hours of recording time. These files
can be easily transferred to a PC via USB. The advantage of this particular
computer is that it uses SD cards (up to 4 GB) as the recording medium. The
current price of this computer is $179, and some wholesalers are including the
4 GB SD card with it at that price. Further, the H2 comes with an AC wall
PS and internal stereo mics. It can do double duty as a live music session
recorder and a contest recorder.
Normal disclaimers, just thought it would be good to pass along. Mine is on
order from the Clausmeister.
