Following the same (dubious) logic, any non-RF based spotting
system, developed by some contesters for some contesters and
made available for all contesters, should be instantly and
gleefuly adopted by all contesters.

Regardless of how, or why, or by whom they were developed,
spotting networks are now non-amateur (professional) wired
communications systems used in parallel with amateur-band RF
for the sole purpose of improving scores in amateur-radio
contests.
They have as much relevance to contesting as has the public
switched telephone network - none! It's no wonder they are
despised by those who can think, and operate, for themselves.
