As part of the of the YCCC SO2R Box (plus) project I developed
a new serial protocol.

The Open Two Radio Switching Protocol (OTRSP) is supported by
N1MM Logger and WriteLog, and I expect it to be available in
at least one other major logging program.

It is an open protocol - anyone can use it to build an SO2R
device or add it to a logging program.

OTRSP is simple enough that it could be implemented in just about
any microprocessor. An SO2R box could be built out of a Basic
Stamp or Arduino or similar device, three transistors, and four
relays.

Alternatively the protocol can be used to communicate with an
interface program which then communicates with the SO2R device.
The YCCC SO2R Box (plus) does this. Someone could probably
write an interface program for the EZMaster, for example, which
would allow it to work with N1MM Logger or Writelog without
using a parallel port.

The protocol specification is, admittedly not very well written.
You can find it, along with a reference device implementation
at http://www.k1xm.org/OTRSP/ .

The YCCC SO2R Box (plus) project is at http://so2r.k1xm.org/ .
The schematic is available on the website. We plan to add the
PC board and enclosure layout information and an assembly
manual soon.

If anyone has questions about the protocol or how to implement
it, or if you are a better tech writer than I am and you want
to improve the spec, feel free to contact me.

And thanks to Tom, N1MM and Wayne, W5XD, for implementing the
protocol and for their suggestions.

                             Paul, K1XM
