The March QST has an announcement for "The ARRL Rookie Roundup" to be held in
Aoril. It is the entry level contest that more or less is a follow-on to the
Novice Roundup in which many of us (WN0MWN in 1966 included) started our
contesting career.
Of note in the announcement is that "100% real time logging, scoring and
adjudication" will be used. "Results will be published online within minutes
after the contest." This should effectively deal with lots of problems.
The Rookie Roundup will be 6 hours long and held on 3 weekends, one each for
SSB, CW and RTTY. Nonrookies can participate, but can work rookies only.
It is probably not too soon to make noise at your local club about getting
rookies involved. And to give them a clue on how to deal with a pileup. I
suspect that there will be a lot more nonrookies than rookies in the contest.
:^)= I am glad that the ARRL is taking positive steps to encourage new hams to
contest and to use modern technology for logging. - Duffey
