No sign here that RBN or skimmers, etc. are diminishing bad spots. Out of
1450 contacts on 40 SB, I logged 66 dupes (4.6%) but would have had many
more had I not decided about 3/4 of the way through the contest to start
sending QSO B4 in hopes of letting the others on frequency know that the
spot was wrong. On one occasion, 8-10 stations I had already worked called
me one after another. (Ironically, these dupers seem to be mainly the big
stations
with good ops who should know better.)

In the future, when all the point-and-clickers have access to skimmers,
etc., won't the current spotting system become superfluous? Assuming that
skimmers do not make mistakes, that could be a tremendous improvement.

One can only hope.

In the meantime, how about a 50 Q penalty for each inaccurate spot?

Well I asked this same question (without the RBN component) last year
and it pretty much fell on deaf ears. As you know, the "No self
spotting" is written into the rules, so that's how it's gonna be...
whether the rule makes sense or can be justified.

Regarding the RBN, I was believing it would help reduce the number of
busted calls posted. I didn't find that to be the case over the CQWW
weekend. Whether the RBN reduced the number of busts, I don't know. i
wasn't keeping track. It was simply my "feeling" when I saw double spots
on the same frequency with variant callsigns.
