August 22, 2011

WRTC2014 Granted 501 (c) (3) Tax Exempt Status by IRS

WRTC2014, Inc., host of the 2014 World Radiosport Team Championship
competition is pleased to announce that it has received a Letter of
Determination from the U.S. Internal Revenue Service granting 501(c)(3)
status as a tax-exempt public charity. This means that contributions to
WRTC2014, Inc. by U.S. taxpayers are deductible to the extent allowed by
law.

The IRS describes this status as follows:

To be tax-exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, an
organization must be organized and operated exclusively for exempt purposes
set forth in section 501(c)(3), and none of its earnings may inure to any
private shareholder or individual. In addition, it may not be an action
organization, i.e., it may not attempt to influence legislation as a
substantial part of its activities and it may not participate in any
campaign activity for or against political candidates.

"Our goal is to educate the public in New England and beyond about Amateur
Radio's capabilities," stated WRTC2014 Chairman Doug Grant, K1DG. "We'll
highlight the excitement of radiosport competition to promote the hobby and
to showcase the possibilities of what can be done by great operators with
relatively modest antennas."

About WRTC 2014

The World Radiosport Team Championship (WRTC) is held every four years and
consists of approximately 50 two-person teams of amateur radio operators
from around the world competing in a test of operating skill. Unlike most
on-the-air competitions, all stations are required to use identical antennas
from the same geographic region, eliminating all variables except operating
ability. Previous WRTCs have been held in Seattle (1990), San Francisco
(1996), Slovenia (2000), Finland (2002), Brazil (2006), and Russia (2010).
More information is available at www.wrtc2014.org.
