I wasn't talking about a mug that you purchase from the ARRL.

Getting the sweep is pretty important if you are trying to win. If you can manage to get it early then you can concentrate your entire effort on running and you don't have to devote any time searching for mults.

I received an email from the ARRL and they are changing the rule to be more consistent with how they score your log.

So now you can work your 24 hours, then turn on packet and find all your buddies in the club that you missed during your 24 hours and give them points..................contesting at its finest.

This just isn't true! According to the rules: "Clean Sweep Coffee Mugs - 2013 Info, Mug awards are based on claimed scores, The price for the keepsake mug is $15"

So, from first hand experience, all that is necessary to obtain the "elusive sweep" award, is to send $15.00, along with your summary, "claiming" a clean sweep. Not much fun, or strategy involved?
