Barry,
There are eleven time zones in Russia, which currently observe times ranging from UTC+02:00 to UTC+12:00 Even if you mean just EU Russia, which has higher ham radio population, there are 4 time zones. Having said that, I do agree that impact of location to one's results in contesting is huge..

2. working Russia on 10m (and 15m as the sunspots decline) is very difficult because UA sunset is about 30 minutes before CO/NM sunrise
