On Saturday, teams visiting from Russia, Japan, and Canada (and the US) will
be competing in the contesting portion of the 2016 Friendship Radiosport
Games (FRG). With special callsigns K7J, K7C, K7K, and K7R, they'll compete
both before and during the NAQP SSB contest, rotating among stations of four
Oregon hams. (The Willamette Valley DX Club is hosting the FRG this year.)
If you're able to give these visiting hams a QSO, please do so. (They'll
start at 1700z, an hour before the NAQP, to allow time for some CW
operation.)
The FRG teams will also compete in an amateur radio direction finding
competition (on Friday), and a high speed telegraphy contest (on Sunday).
(London odds-makers report that the Russian team is the early favourite as
overall winner, based on its past domination of FRG events.)
The first Friendship Radiosport Games were held in 1989, in Khabarovk, and
have been held at various other Pacific rim venues since then. See
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Friendship_Radiosport_Games for additional
information.
