Tim and your group,
Not sure what ".leading a contest sig." means..I'll presume it's a typo.
If you are interested in just having fun and you are very new to contesting,
do mostly (or even all) S&P. (assisted makes this easier, but finding rare
mults by yourself on phone is much more satisfying, as mults do not get
spotted by any kind of RBN.). A sweep is not guaranteed.
If you are somewhat interested in making a SWEEP of all 83 sections in a
short-ish amount of time but doubt you'll operate the entire contest,
you will probably have an 'easier' time of it if you do a mix of running and
S&P'ing. (work 50-60-70 sections by running, then concentrate on tuning or
being assisted for remaining mults)
Any time I have made a sweep it's always been a mix of run and S&P. I can't
recall if I have ever done SS assisted, but doubt it. (sorta like shooting
fish in a barrel, but for a newb, might be the way to go)
If you are interested in ONLY making a sweep (for the coffee mug) and want a
little challenge, do 83 S&P efforts to make 83 Q's (I've done this a couple
times and it is not as easy as it sounds).this is easier by going assisted,
but then what's the point?
Tune-tune-tune and don't make the mistake of only working the loud
guys.(true for any contest)..I have seen VE6EX or some other rare mult be a
QRP entry !
You probably should define what your what your goal is before SS or you may
come away disappointed.
For example: If your goal is that you want a sweep, but only run 100% of the
time from Ohio from a small stn , you'll in all likelihood fail.
Smile. Have fun. It's a hobby.

As I mentioned earlier this year, I am leading a contesting sig in our
local club. I am hoping to send out an email of suggestions for
sweepstakes. Most of the guys are casual contesters or points passers.
Most have 100w stations and wires or the occasional tribander.
So, heres the question: what tips, suggestions, etc, would you pass on to
us?
Thanks
Tim
