Just a reminder to send in your Stew Perry log - especially if you were a
low power or QRP station. By sending in your log - you will assure that the
people you worked get the appropriate multiplier for their hard earned QSO
with you.

We are close to a record number of log submissions already - just a week
after the contest.

When it is cold and dark one can't help but think about 160 meters.
Especially the CQ 160 contest at the end of January (CW) and February (SSB).

We are working on building out a database of CQ 160 Meter contest scores.
The CQ 160 scores from 2004-2016 are now available in a searchable database
on the cq160.com web site.

>From here on, progress requires typing in the results from the magazine
results.

There are still many more years to go. If you would like to take on the job
of typing in a year, please let me know.

Everyone enjoys the CQ WW and CQ WPX score databases. Let's do the same for
the 160m contest.

The JT9 and JT65 windows have been jumping this winter. I've been monitoring
for about a month, in hopes of working SC and VT to complete QRP WAS on 160.
I was successful a few weeks ago in completing a QSO with WV. From my QTH 5
miles from the Pacific, 70 miles S of San Francisco, I've decoded 530
different stations, and they were working another 30-40 stations I could not
decode. On any given night, it's common to decode at least 50 different
stations. At least a third of the stations are east of the Mississippi
River. Four were from EU, two from VK (including VK6, 8,000 miles mostly
over water) and a few SA. Nearly all states and most Canadian provinces have
been represented; the only US states not decoded are HI and VT.

The comparison with CW activity is stark -- my P3 display rarely shows more
than one or two signals on the band at any one time, and when I tune to
them, it's often an unanswered CQ.

Thanks - any chance of deriving similar figures for SO LP?

And if there really is to be no innuendo, then graphs that go from zero to
100% (rather than 70%) might be visually more representative.

Curious how it relates to overall participation.

Well, of course -- it was for SSB. People who operate 'phone instead of
learning the code are lazy, just like click-heads who don't want to tune for
QSOs. I'd expect a strong correlation.

Now don't start flaming me. I said it was snarky, and it was (mostly) in
jest. Some human activities may be easier to start up ('phone, rather than
CW; SO, rather than SOA; snare drum, rather than violin), but excellence
always takes a lot of effort, and, sometimes, unusual talents.

So 65 % of CQCWWSSB NA entrants are unlimited. Hmmm....

More interesting will be the CQWWCW. With the firehose of CW RBN spots, more
people have access to more contacts. More contacts is always more fun. The
vast majority of W/K CW entrants have minmimal ability to "run" stations.
The question then becomes, do you want to S&P the band yourself or click on
spots with the occasional try at a CQ? The stats will answer which choice is
more popular
