I am all for the "everybody works everybody" rule that the CQWW RTTY has,
especially since we run into so many US people in the contest that don't know
that you can only work DX, and will answer you when you are running. This is a
contact that you have to make to be able to move on, and is zero points. I was
reminded of how fun the RTTY contest was last weekend when I could sit some new
hams down in the shack and let them have at it, and everybody they worked was
worth at least one point.
Our local DX club here in the Pacific NW has a year long "contest within a
contest" going on with several other NW based clubs, including a VE based DX
club. Every US station the VE club works in the CQWW Phone and CW are worth
points, every US station we work are zeros. There are a lot more US stations on
than VEs, which really skews the results. The CQWW RTTY rules evens up the
playing field somewhat, as they still get 2 points per US QSO, but at least we
get one point rather than zero.
That said, rules are rules, and the idea is to have as much fun as possible
within the rules!

Subject: Re: [CQ-Contest] CQWW
Some stations, like those in the US, can get the zone multipliers by
working other countries. I can get zones 3, 4 and 5 by working Canada. I
don't have to work a station in my country to get them, so if we eliminated
same country QSOs, I would lose 1 mult-the US country multiplier.
However, some other amateurs wouldn't be so fortunate. If I am in Asiatic
Russia and in Zone 17, and I cannot work other stations in my country,
there is no way for me to get zones 18 and 19 as multipliers. That rule
then costs me 3 multipliers per band-1 country multiplier and 2 zone
multipliers.
