Hi Ria,
The W1/W2's wrote the contest rules (Newington/Hicksville) so you could
WIN all the contests. Do you really think in these years of NO sunspots
WPX 6 point EU Q's on 40/80 are fair while I work W9's for 1 point? Are
5 and 10 point EU Q's in ARRL/CQ 160M contests fair when I can't hear
W9's for 2 points? CQWW has become an EU/W1/W2/W3 QSO party. IT IS 2019!
The internet and entrepreneurship and plain old $$$ have started to even
the field, but the best is yet to come! No expense spared has been around
for a very long time in the pursuit of a contest win! Look at the M/M
results for any major contest. Look at the M/M webpages.
Radiosport is competition and the goal is to be on the podium for your
country/entry category. In my 30 years of triathlon and mountain bike
racing all over the Western US, no one ever told me I had to start at the
back of the pack because I was from AZ.
Ria, congrats on being the new Hudson Division director AND an active
contester. There is a huge contesting community that does not live in
W1/W2 and yet dutifully pay their ARRL dues! Maybe consider them when
a contest rule change proposal comes across your e-mail.
