Is the hum just heard in your IF monitor or by other hams (over the air)?

I have a Nel-Tec DVK-100 and with my Yaesu you hear a hum that turns out to
be the actual computer noise. Someone borrowed it several years ago to
operate SS from N4RJ (I think it was Trey N5KO or Bill N4VJ) and told me
that it had a hum in the Kenwood. I tried it on a TS940S 3 years ago and
you again hear the hum in the monitor and even in a Drake R4B on my
boatanchor table, but none on transmit. Gary (nel-tec) gave some hints, but
I now use it on my ICOM (no hum heard) so I don't worry.

Check it out both barefoot and with the amp (try 10 or 15 for the best test)
and see if its real or local pickup hum!
